Wanowrie, 29th August 2025: Police arrested a 38-year-old domestic help within 24 hours for stealing gold ornaments worth ₹5.87 lakh from the residence of retired Wing Commander Satish Makashir and his wife, Nisha, at Sopan Baug in Wanowrie.

The couple lodged a complaint on Friday afternoon after discovering that their jewellery, which they described as their “lifelong savings,” had gone missing. “We were deeply shocked when we realised the jewellery was gone. It was not just about the monetary value but also the emotional attachment,” said Mrs. Makashir while filing the complaint.

Senior Police Inspector Satyajit Adamane of Wanowrie police station registered the case and formed a special team to track down the culprit. “Considering the complainants’ age and the seriousness of the theft, we prioritised the case and launched a swift investigation,” Adamane told reporters.

Initial inquiries pointed towards two women working as domestic helps at the Makashir residence. During the probe, police received a tip-off that one of them, identified as Sudha Rajesh Chougule, a resident of B.T. Kawade Road, was attempting to sell the stolen jewellery at a nearby shop. Officers immediately detained her and recovered the entire stolen property.
“The accused has been arrested and presented before the court. We have recovered all the jewellery, bringing much-needed relief to the victims,” Inspector Adamane confirmed.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Police Inspector (Crime) Vijaykumar Doke, assisted by API Umakant Mahadik and a team comprising Daya Shegar, Mahesh Gadhave, Amol Pilane, Atul Gaikwad, Vishnu Sutar, Gopal Madane, Abhijit Chavan, Amol Gaikwad, Arshad Sayyed, Vitthal Chormale, Yatin Bhosale, Balaji Waghmare, Ashish Kamble, and women constables Shaila Thengal and Pushpa Borkar.
