Pune Municipal Corporation to Take Over City Advertisement Spaces, Aiming for Rs 5–6 Crore Annual Revenue
Pune, 29th August 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation has unveiled a new revenue initiative, taking direct control of advertisements on city flyovers, streetlights, pedestrian bridges, flyover pillars, and street furniture. The civic body has identified nearly 2.5 lakh square feet of advertisement space for this purpose.
At present, unauthorized boards and flex banners are frequently placed in these locations, often in an unregulated manner. This not only spoils the city’s visual appeal but also results in financial losses for the corporation.
In response, the administration has prepared a preliminary proposal, which was presented to the Municipal Commissioner on Thursday.
Mirroring MahaMetro’s strategy of utilising metro pillars for advertisements, the corporation plans to adopt a similar model for city infrastructure.
Revenue Potential and Implementation
The city has approximately 250 small and large bridges, many of whose pillars and side walls are currently covered with unauthorized banners. Despite being highly visible in busy areas, many walls remain unused for formal advertising.
Political leaders and party workers often put up their own banners for publicity. To regulate this, the corporation has compiled a list of suitable spaces. The Sky-Sign Department will establish rules for advertisement sizes and install proper frames or structures. These spaces will then be leased out through formal contracts by the corporation.
Through this initiative, the civic administration expects to generate around ₹5–6 crore in revenue annually, while also improving the aesthetic appeal of public infrastructure.
