Pune: Three Teenagers Injured as Underage Rider Crashes Into Car Door, Driver Booked
Nana Peth, 31st August 2025: Three teenagers were injured in a road mishap at Quartergate Chowk, Nana Peth, after the motorcycle they were riding rammed into the open door of a parked car. The incident took place around 9 pm on August 22.
Police said the rider, a 16-year-old boy, was carrying two pillion riders aged 15 and 16. All three sustained injuries in the accident. One of the boys remains hospitalized, while the other two have been discharged.
The father of one of the injured minors, a 43-year-old resident of Bhawani Peth, lodged a complaint against the car driver, who is 46 years old and runs a business in the area. Based on the complaint, Samarth police registered a case.
Senior Inspector Uttam Gitte of Samarth Police Station confirmed the development. “The car driver has been booked for negligence. One of the boys is still under treatment, while the other two were discharged after medical care,” he said.
According to investigators, the driver was heading towards Camp from Quartergate when he pulled over to the side of the road. Without checking his mirrors or looking behind, he opened the car door. At the same time, the motorcycle carrying the three minors was coming from behind and collided directly with the open door.
“The impact threw all three boys onto the road, leaving them with head and back injuries,” an officer explained.
Police further added that action will also be taken against the parents of the underage rider.
“It is unlawful to allow a minor to ride a two-wheeler. We will be registering a case against the parents for handing over the motorcycle to him despite being underage,” Inspector Gitte stated.
