Pune: Traffic Police in Pimpri Chinchwad Penalise 2,468 Vehicles for HSRP Violations, Collect Rs 12.77 Lakh
Pimpri Chinchwad, 27th October 2026: The traffic police in Pimpri Chinchwad have penalised 2,468 vehicles for plying without number plates or using old or non-compliant number plates between January 1 and October 25, 2026. A total of Rs 12.77 lakh was collected in fines during the period.
Under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, vehicles are required to be fitted with High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs). The plates are intended to curb criminal activities, prevent the misuse of fake number plates and help trace stolen vehicles.
Despite deadline extensions and repeated awareness campaigns, several motorists continue to violate the norms, prompting the traffic police to intensify inspections at major junctions across the city.
The action over the past 10 months covered two-wheelers, four-wheelers and commercial vehicles. Cases were registered against 2,468 motorists for driving without number plates, using defective or illegible plates, or failing to install government-approved HSRPs. Fines totalling Rs 12,77,500 were imposed through e-challans.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vikrant Deshmukh urged vehicle owners to get HSRPs installed promptly through the authorised website.
“Vehicle owners should install HSRP number plates through the official website to avoid penal action and ensure their vehicles comply with the rules. The inspection drive will be intensified, and further legal action will be initiated against violators,” he said.
