Yerawada, 2nd September 2025: An army jawan was allegedly assaulted by a group of youngsters riding two-wheelers at high speed in Yerawada around 3 am on Saturday. When police personnel on patrol intervened, the gang reportedly manhandled them as well. Yerawada police later arrested five people, including a young woman, in connection with the incident.

Those arrested have been identified as Dnyaneshwar Sundar Natkale (26), Rahul Sanjay Salve (23), Rohit Ashok Dongre (27, resident of Bhimnagar, Vishrantwadi), Harshal Bhosale (25, resident of Tingrenagar, Vishrantwadi), and Siddhi Kamble (24, resident of Sapras, Yerawada).

According to Yerawada police, the complainant, a 32-year-old army jawan, was travelling through the area with a colleague when the accused rode past them recklessly on separate two-wheelers. The jawan objected to their speeding, following which the group allegedly abused, pushed, and threatened him.

Police said the accused also tried to snatch the jawan’s silver chain and mobile phone, and even threatened to kill him.

The incident took place near the Jail Road police chowky. On receiving information, two police personnel rushed to the spot and attempted to pacify the group. However, the accused allegedly pushed and argued with the police as well before they were restrained.

Following the jawan’s complaint, a case has been registered at Yerawada police station under charges of obstructing government work, assault, and robbery attempt. Assistant Police Inspector Vishal Takle is conducting further investigation.
