Pune: Four Drown During Ganesh Immersion in Chakan
Chakan, 7th September 2025: In a tragic series of incidents, four people drowned during Ganesh immersion rituals in the Chakan area on Sunday afternoon. The incidents occurred between 12 noon and 3:30 pm, police said.
According to Sanjay Solanke, Senior Police Inspector of Chakan Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police), two youths drowned in the Bhama river at Waki Khurd, one person drowned in a well at Birdawadi in Khed taluka, and another man drowned in the Bhima river at Shelpimpalgaon.
The victims in Waki Khurd have been identified as a 20-year-old student from Koyali and a 19-year-old youth from Uttar Pradesh. At Shelpimpalgaon, a 45-year-old man lost his life, while another youth drowned in the well at Birdawadi.
Police and rescue teams immediately launched search operations in the Bhama River. The body of one victim has been recovered, while efforts to trace the other are underway.
