1.45 Lakh Cases Resolved, Settlements Worth Rs 665 Crore In A Day: Pune Tops Maharashtra in National Lok Adalat

Pune, 14th September 2025: Pune district has achieved the top position in Maharashtra during the National Lok Adalat, held at Ashoka Hall, District and Sessions Court, Shivajinagar, on Saturday (September 13). Under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge and Chairman of Pune District Legal Services Authority, M.K. Mahajan, more than 1.45 lakh cases were settled in a single day, resulting in settlements worth ₹665.44 crore.

Out of the 2,43,424 cases listed, 1,27,541 cases were resolved along with 17,560 under special campaigns. A total of 135 panels worked throughout the day to facilitate the proceedings. The Lok Adalat was inaugurated by Judge Mahajan, while Justices Revati Dere-Mohite and Sandeep Marne of the Bombay High Court joined via video conference to commend the initiative.

Pre- and Post-Litigation Success

Pre-litigation cases saw particularly high success rates, with 1,03,066 cases resolved out of 1,84,744, leading to recoveries of ₹98.25 crore through mediation. Of the 58,680 post-litigation cases taken up, 24,475 were settled, while 17,560 pending cases were resolved under a special campaign, contributing to recoveries of ₹567.19 crore.

  • 48,167 water tax cases
  • 18,374 criminal compoundable cases
  • 6,463 miscellaneous cases
  • 2,04 Negotiable Instruments Act cases
  • 463 civil disputes
  • 1,376 revenue cases
  • 162 electricity bill disputes
  • 68 matrimonial disputes
  • 37 land acquisition cases
  • 35 motor accident claim tribunal cases
  • 7 labour disputes
  • 5 consumer disputes

“Lok Adalat is not just a method of dispute resolution but a people-oriented movement. It strengthens public faith in the judiciary. This record disposal is the result of the combined efforts of all stakeholders,” said Judge Mahajan.

Sonal Patil, Secretary of the Pune District Legal Services Authority, lauded the collective efforts behind the achievement. “The settlement of nearly 1.45 lakh cases in a single day is remarkable. We are grateful for the support of judges, lawyers, court staff, banks, financial institutions, Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporations, Pune City Police, and Zilla Parishad officials for making this initiative a success,” she said.
