Pune, 17th September 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will require nearly 24,000 employees to conduct the upcoming municipal elections. According to officials, information about 19,000 employees has already been collected, while the process of gathering details from around 3,000 government establishments in the city is underway.

With the court setting a deadline for holding the long-pending civic polls, the administration has begun preparations on a war footing. The elections, which were due in March 2022, had been delayed. In the intervening period, 23 villages have been merged into the municipal limits, expanding the scope of the civic body.

Ward Structure and Officials Requested
As per the revised structure, 165 corporators will be elected through a draft ward system of four members. The draft has been submitted to the state government for final approval after public hearings. For smooth conduct of the polls, the administration has sought the appointment of 17 election officers and 17 assistant election officers from the Divisional Commissioner’s office.

Polling Stations Likely to Increase
In the last Assembly elections, Pune had 3,431 polling stations. Based on a survey conducted by the Municipal Corporation and the current number of voters, this figure is expected to rise to 4,490 polling stations for the municipal polls.

Regional officers have been appointed as nodal officers to identify polling locations and ensure facilities such as drinking water, ramps, and seating arrangements for voters. The Election Department has also completed inspections of these centers and prepared a report on available infrastructure.

Employee Deployment in Progress
The process of matching employees to election duties has already started. Officials emphasized that adequate staff deployment is crucial to managing the increased number of polling centers across the city and newly added villages.
