Viman Nagar, 26th September 2025: Airport authorities in Pune received an email on Tuesday evening warning that a private airline flight from Chennai, carrying an RDX-based improvised explosive device (IED), should not be allowed to land at Lohegaon Airport. The message, received around 9:40 pm, prompted heightened security measures across the airport.

Senior Inspector Govind Jadhav of the Airport Police said, “The email claimed that the aircraft would explode if it was allowed to land here. This naturally caused concern, and security protocols were immediately tightened. After thorough checks, the threat was confirmed to be a hoax.”

Following the incident, a complaint was lodged by an airline staffer on Wednesday evening, leading to the registration of a police case. “A bomb detection and disposal squad inspected the airport premises and the incoming aircraft, but nothing suspicious was found,” Jadhav added.

Pune Airport Director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that security measures were intensified. “We initiated second-level checks for nearly all flights. The CISF has been instructed to pay extra attention to baggage screening, and airlines have been asked to remain vigilant while handling passengers,” he said.

The incident caused temporary concern among airport staff and travelers, but normal operations resumed after the threat was deemed false.
