Kothrud, 28th September 2025: Notorious goon Nilesh Ghaywal, facing several serious criminal cases in Pune, has managed to flee abroad, with police sources expressing suspicion that he may have escaped to London. A lookout notice has been issued against him.

Investigations have revealed that Ghaywal obtained a passport using a fake address in Ahilyanagar. According to police, he used the address Gauri Ghumtanandi Bazar, Kotwali, Maliwada Road, falling under Kotwali Police Station limits in Ahilyanagar, to secure the document.

This revelation has sparked questions over how local police granted clearance for the passport without verifying Ghaywal’s criminal background. “Whose backing did Ghaywal have to obtain a passport despite his record?” is a question now being raised.

Recent Gang Violence in Pune

The fugitive goon has been in the spotlight since a violent incident in Pune earlier this month. On September 17, members of the Ghaywal gang opened fire in Kothrud over a trivial dispute, leaving one youth, Prakash Madhukar Dhumal, seriously injured. Shortly after, gang members attacked another youth with a crowbar in connection with an old rivalry.

Both cases were registered at Kothrud Police Station, which later arrested five gang members – Mayur Gulab Kumbre (29), Anand Anil Chandlekar (24), Ganesh Satish Raut (32), Mayank alias Monty Vijay Vyas (30), and Dinesh Ram Pathak (28), all residents of Kothrud.

MCOCA Action Against Gang

Following the shooting, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against ten members of the gang, including Ghaywal. However, before police could arrest him, the gangster managed to flee the country.

Passport Clearance Under Scrutiny

The use of a fake Ahilyanagar address has put the role of Kotwali Police Station under the scanner, as they were responsible for clearing the passport verification process. The matter is now expected to draw strong scrutiny, with questions over accountability and possible collusion being raised.

With Ghaywal on the run and international agencies likely to be roped in, the case is set to escalate into a larger probe involving both organised crime and systemic lapses in passport issuance.
