Adani, Welspun, GR Infraprojects in Race for Pune–Shirur Elevated Road Tender
Pune, 30th September 2025: The Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) has moved ahead with plans to construct the Pune–Shirur elevated road in the first phase of the Pune–Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Expressway and the existing highway improvement project.
Technical tenders for the ₹7,515 crore project were opened on Monday, with three major infrastructure companies — Adani Enterprises Limited, Welspun Enterprises Limited, and GR Infraprojects Limited — submitting bids.
Officials said the financial bids will be opened next, after which the winning company responsible for execution will be announced.
Project Background
The Pune–Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Expressway and the highway improvement project were originally overseen by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). Last year, the responsibility was transferred to MSIDC. Under the new plan, a 54-km six-lane elevated road will be built between Pune and Shirur, reducing travel time to just 45 minutes once operational.
Tender Process and Timeline
According to MSIDC officials, the tender process has received strong interest. The project will be implemented on a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) basis, with tolls collected in line with the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ 2008 Toll Policy to recover costs.
Once the financial tender is finalized, construction is expected to begin at the earliest. Contractors will be given four years to complete the work, setting the likely completion timeline around 2030.
A Faster Route Ahead
With an estimated cost of ₹7,515 crore, the Pune–Shirur elevated road is expected to significantly ease travel between Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar by improving road connectivity and cutting down travel time.
