Kothrud, 30th September 2025: Fugitive gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, wanted for shooting a youth in Pune’s Kothrud area earlier this month, has fled to Switzerland on a 90-day visa. Pune police have confirmed that Ghaywal managed to obtain a passport from Ahilyanagar using allegedly fake documents.

Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar has ordered an investigation into the passport issuance and directed strict action against those responsible. A lookout notice has also been issued to prevent Ghaywal from evading law enforcement further.

The September 17 Shooting
On September 17, around 11:30 pm, a youth chatting with a friend in Kothrud was shot at by members of the Ghaywal gang. Following the incident, police arrested Mayur Kumbre, Rohit Akhade, Ganesh Raut, Mayank alias Monty Vyas, Anand Chandlekar alias Andya, and Dinesh Phatak. Ghaywal, who was named as the main accused, went absconding soon after.

Commissioner Amitesh Kumar invoked the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) in the case. “Definite action will be taken against the culprits,” he said.

Fresh Case for Fake Vehicle Number Plate
Meanwhile, another case has been registered against Ghaywal at Kothrud Police Station. A complainant alleged that the number plate of his car was illegally used on a two-wheeler in Kothrud. Investigations revealed that the two-wheeler belonged to Ghaywal. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam confirmed the development.

How a Lookout Notice Works
A lookout notice is a legal mechanism issued to prevent an accused, suspect, or criminal from leaving the country. Immigration officials at international airports and seaports are alerted, enabling authorities to intercept the individual if they attempt to travel abroad.

Gangster’s Background
Ghaywal, a native of Jamkhed in Ahilyanagar, has multiple serious cases registered against him in Pune city. Crime branch officials believe he fled abroad specifically to avoid arrest. The police are now coordinating with central agencies to track his movements in Switzerland.
