Pune: Youth Congress State Secretary, Associate Arrested for Demanding Rs 50,000 Extortion from Pimpri Shopkeeper
Pimpri, 1st October 2025: Pimpri police arrested two individuals, including the Youth Congress state secretary, for allegedly demanding Rs 50,000 from a shopkeeper in Pimpri Camp, threatening to complain to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) over an unauthorized shed outside the shop.
The arrested accused have been identified as Pankaj Bagade (40), the Youth Congress state secretary, and Ganesh Darade (50). A 58-year-old grocery shop owner filed the complaint at Pimpri police station.
According to police reports, the incident occurred on September 17, when the accused approached the shopkeeper and demanded the sum, warning that if the money was not paid, they would kill him by putting a motorbike on his body and abusing him. Investigation revealed that the accused had previously threatened other shopkeepers known to the complainant and repeatedly demanded money.
The complaint was formally lodged on September 26, following which the police launched an investigation. Assistant Police Inspector Digambar Atigray is leading the probe.
