Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar-Kondhwa Pune Metro Line on Track: DPR Submission Expected in Three Months
Pune, 1st October 2025: The Shivajinagar-Kondhwa line, part of the second phase of Pune Metro expansion, is set to move forward with the detailed project report (DPR) scheduled for completion within the next three months, Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Mahametro) Managing Director Shravan Hardikar said. The DPR will then be submitted to the central and state governments for approval.
The metro expansion project aims to extend the network by 20 km, running from Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar and further to Kondhwa. The new line is expected to ease traffic congestion in Kondhwa, NIBM, and Yewalewadi areas, which have seen significant urbanization in recent years.
The project was highlighted during the monsoon session of the state legislature when MLC Yogesh Tilekar raised concerns about traffic issues in Kondhwa and Yewalewadi. Continuous follow-ups have been undertaken to expedite the project.
“The process of appointing consultants for the Shivajinagar-Kondhwa project is in the final stage. The DPR will be prepared in the next three months and sent to the central and state governments for final approval,” Hardikar said.
Mahametro has also launched a tender process for the Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar line extension. The state government has approved proposed metro lines connecting Khadakwasla, Hadapsar, Swargate, and Kharadi. Additionally, there is a proposal to extend Metro Line-4 from Hadapsar to Saswad in anticipation of the proposed Purandar Airport. These initiatives aim to make Pune’s public transport system more efficient and accessible, Hardikar added.
