PMC Gears Up for Civic Elections: 5,000 Polling Stations to Be Set Up Across Pune
Pune, 7th October 2025: : With the final ward structure of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) now approved, the civic administration has started preparations for voter list division and polling station arrangements ahead of the upcoming municipal elections. Officials have proposed to increase the number of polling stations to ensure greater convenience for voters, with nearly 5,000 polling booths expected to be set up across the city.
Additional Municipal Commissioner Omprakash Divate informed that site inspections for polling stations will begin shortly. “The final structure of municipal wards has been announced recently. Based on this, we will now begin work on voter list division, polling station determination, and ward-wise planning,” he said.
A review meeting was held at the PMC headquarters on Monday to discuss the planning process, booth-wise arrangements, and staff responsibilities. The Election Commission has directed that polling stations be located close to citizens’ residences to improve accessibility and voter turnout. Accordingly, PMC officials have been instructed to start site inspections to identify suitable polling station locations across Pune city.
The responsibility for coordinating this work has been assigned to Deputy Commissioner Arvind Mali. He has been directed to review the details of polling stations used during last year’s Assembly elections and create new centers where required.
In previous elections, voter list divisions were manually carried out by municipal employees, leading to errors such as family members’ names being assigned to different wards or missing entries altogether. These discrepancies often affected voter participation. To prevent such issues, the division of voter lists will now be conducted using specialized software.
“Our focus is on ensuring that the voter lists are accurate and error-free this time,” said Divate.
The municipal administration plans to begin on-ground inspections and data verification in the coming days as part of its pre-election preparations.
