Pune, 7th October 2025: A joint team of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) and the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd. (PMPML) supervisory officers has launched an enforcement drive against autorickshaw drivers violating traffic and parking regulations near PMPML bus stands in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

According to the rule, rickshaw drivers are prohibited from parking or picking up passengers within 50 meters of PMPML bus stands or bus stops. However, officials said that many rickshaw drivers routinely flout this rule by stopping near major bus stands and ferrying PMPML passengers, causing inconvenience to bus drivers and commuters.

In response to repeated complaints from PMPML drivers, passengers, and commuter forums, PMPML Chairman and Managing Director Pankaj Deore directed the formation of a special enforcement team to curb such violations. The team comprises three PMPML supervisory officers and one RTO officer each for Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad city.

The joint vigilance teams have conducted multiple checks this month and initiated action against errant drivers. Details of the action are as follows:
Date – Bus Stand Locations – Rickshaws Penalized – Fine Amount (₹)
1st Oct – Swargate Main Bus Stand – 2 – 4,000
3rd Oct – Pune Station, Yerawada, Ramwadi Metro Station, Wakdewadi ST Stand – 8 – 16,000
6th Oct – Swargate Main Bus Stand, Katraj Chowk – 5 – 7,000
Total — 15 – Rs 27,000

Officials said that unauthorized parking of rickshaws and private vehicles near PMPML bus stops often blocks bus movement and increases the risk of accidents.

PMPML and RTO authorities have appealed to rickshaw drivers and private vehicle owners to strictly follow the 50-meter rule and avoid parking near bus stands. They warned that strict action will continue against violators to ensure passenger safety and smoother bus operations.
