Pune: Bee Attacks on Tourists at Rajgad Fort’s Suvela Machi, Minor Injuries Reported
Velhe, 9th October 2025: Tourists visiting Suvela Machi at Rajgad Fort have faced bee attacks over the past three days, resulting in minor injuries to ten to fifteen visitors, according to Bapu Sable, a guard from the Archaeological Department.
The incidents occurred in the Kapari area near the fortified bastion of Medha at Suvela Machi, where numerous bee hives are located. With the current wildflower season, bees are actively gathering food and fodder, and the presence of tourists near their habitat has triggered defensive attacks.
The Archaeological Department noted that the attacks were provoked by tourists approaching the hives, smoking, using scented substances like attar or perfume, or wearing dark clothes. These incidents took place between Monday (October 6) and Wednesday (October 8). Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported.
Bapu Sable highlighted that over the years, both Rajgad and Torna forts have witnessed bee-related injuries, with tourists often ignoring repeated warnings. The Archaeological Department and local residents have advised visitors to avoid disturbing the bees to prevent stings.
Authorities have urged tourists to exercise caution, respect the natural habitat, and maintain a safe distance from bee colonies while exploring the fort.
