Pune, 9th October 2025: Pune Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the recent firing incident in Kothrud. Investigations revealed that both accused are members of the Nilesh Ghaywal gang, leading police to register a case against gangster Nilesh Ghaywal himself. While a search operation to trace him is underway, reports suggest that Ghaywal may have fled abroad.

Questions have been raised over how Ghaywal managed to obtain a passport despite facing multiple criminal cases. It also emerged that his brother, Sachin Ghaywal, was issued a firearm license on the recommendation of Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam. The revelation has triggered criticism from opposition leaders, who have demanded accountability.

Responding to the controversy, Minister Yogesh Kadam said,“In the case of teacher and businessman Sachin Ghaywal’s firearm license appeal, the police report submitted to my office indicated that no criminal cases were pending against him as of the date of the hearing. Therefore, the license was issued in accordance with the rules.”

Meanwhile, Union Minister and Pune MP Murlidhar Mohol, who was in the city for an official visit, was asked by reporters about the surge in crime and the Kothrud firing incident linked to the Ghaywal gang. Mohol declined to comment on the issue.
