Pune: Hinjawadi Residents, IT Employees Stage Protest Over Fatal Road Accidents; Demand Better Infrastructure
Hinjawadi, 11th October 2025: Residents and IT professionals from Hinjawadi, Maan, and Marunji held a peaceful protest on Saturday morning, demanding urgent action to improve road safety and infrastructure in the area.
The demonstration was sparked by the tragic death of a 34-year-old woman, Bharati Mishra from Thergaon, who died in a collision with a mixer truck on Friday in Pandav Nagar.
Gathering in front of Streets of Europe Mall in Hinjawadi Phase 1, more than 200 residents, including families, children, and senior citizens, voiced their concerns over what they described as lax enforcement of traffic rules and deteriorating road conditions.
Sachin Londhe, representing the Unclog Hinjawadi IT Park petition, said, “We are protesting in solidarity with the woman who lost her life yesterday. Our demand is clear: PMRDA, MIDC, and the Maharashtra Chief Minister must ensure proper infrastructure and strict enforcement of traffic regulations.”
Protesters alleged that the authorities, including the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA), have repeatedly failed to address long-standing safety concerns. “Even after visits from Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and Baramati MP Supriya Sule in recent months, the roads remain unsafe,” said Londhe.
Families of previous accident victims also joined the protest. Vaishali Borate, mother of 11-year-old Pratyusha Santosh Borate, who died in a similar accident with a mixer truck in August 2025, accused the local police of negligence. “Hinjawadi Police keep telling us, ‘Go away, come back again.’ Despite the ban on heavy vehicles during certain hours, trucks still move freely. This is a failure of both enforcement and accountability,” she told the media.
Residents demanded that authorities not only detain drivers responsible for accidents but also hold accountable those who operate and control these vehicles.
The protest continued for over two hours, beginning at 10 a.m., and organizers said a larger demonstration is being planned after Diwali to highlight road safety and citizens’ rights more broadly.
Authorities have been informed that another protest will take place on Sunday at Megapolis Circle, Hinjawadi, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with participation from multiple housing societies in the area.
