Adani Group Firm Secures Rs 1,644 Crore Swargate-Katraj Metro Contract in Pune
Pune, 15th October 2025: Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Mahametro) has awarded the contract for the 5.46-km Swargate to Katraj underground metro line to Adani Group’s ITD Cementation India Limited. The project, with a tender value of Rs 1,643.88 crore, is set to commence by the end of December, Mahametro officials said.
“The central government has sanctioned Rs 2,954 crore for the Swargate-Katraj underground metro project. Mahametro conducted a tender process in which six companies had submitted bids. On September 19, the tender was opened, and ITD Cementation India Limited emerged as the lowest bidder. After verifying quality, experience, and technology credentials, the work was awarded to the company,” said Chandrashekhar Tambavekar, Additional Director General (Public Relations-Administration) of Mahametro.
Tambavekar added that the technical processes related to loan provision and other formalities will be completed within the next month. “The project work will start by December-end, with a target completion year of 2029,” he said.
Delay in Tender Process
The original plan included three stations—Market Yard, Padmavati, and Katraj. Tenders were initially invited in January 2025. However, public representatives and local residents requested the addition of stations at Bibvewadi and Balajinagar. Following Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s approval, Mahametro included the two stations. The project faced further delays as a revised tender process was implemented in April 2025.
The Swargate-Katraj underground metro line is expected to improve connectivity across southern Pune and ease traffic congestion in key transit corridors.
