Philippines: 28 Children from Pune Among 800 Athletes from Across Asia to Participate in 10th STY International Gymnastics Cup
Manila/Pune, 16th October 2025: The Philippines is set to host one of Asia’s most anticipated gymnastics events — the 10th STY International Gymnastics Cup — marking a decade of excellence, artistry, and athletic spirit. The competition will be held from October 17 to 19, 2025, at the Alonte Sports Center in Biñan, Laguna, drawing more than 800 gymnasts and delegates from various Asian countries including Indonesia, Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, India, and several provinces across the Philippines.
Twenty-eight children from Infinity Gymnastics LLP in Pune, under the guidance of coaches Ajit Jarande and Manasi Shevade, are also participating in the events. The club is the only one from India to take part.
This year’s edition will see the largest number of participants in the event’s history, with the Philippine Gymnastics and Athletics Academy (PGAA) also introducing the HP1 category for the first time.
A Decade of Gymnastics Excellence
Celebrating its 10th year, the tournament has evolved into a major platform for Filipino gymnasts — from emerging athletes to national champions — to test their skills against international competitors. It also comes just weeks before the 3rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics Junior World Championships, which the Philippines will host for the first time in November, a milestone for the nation’s gymnastics program.
“Reaching our 10th year is truly a proud moment,” said Normita Ty, founder and head coach of the STY Gymnastics Center. “It reflects how far gymnastics has come in the Philippines. With the upcoming Junior World Championships, we’re thrilled to see our athletes gaining well-deserved recognition on the global stage.”
Ty noted that last year’s competition welcomed over 700 participants, but this year’s event is expected to surpass that. “We are seeing growing participation from regional clubs and provinces that rarely get the chance to compete internationally. Through PGAA, we aim to give these young athletes valuable exposure right here at home,” she added.
Nurturing the Next Generation
Beyond the competition, Coach Ty and the PGAA continue to invest in developing grassroots talent. Their Carmona, Cavite branch serves as a key training hub for aspiring gymnasts in Southern Luzon, offering accessible, high-quality coaching.
“With the strong support of the Binan City Government, led by Mayor Angelo ‘Gel’ Alonte, this partnership helps expand opportunities for young athletes,” Ty said. “Through events like this, we also identify promising gymnasts who may one day follow in the footsteps of stars like Carlos Yulo — and perhaps even discover our future female Olympic medalist.”
Three Days of High-Level Competition
The opening ceremony on October 17 at 5 p.m. will celebrate a decade of athletic achievement with performances and special showcases. The main competition runs from October 18–19 (7 a.m. to 7 p.m.), featuring Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Levels 1–7 and Men’s Artistic Gymnastics Levels 1–3.
The event promises to be more than just a contest — it’s a celebration of skill, perseverance, and sportsmanship. Audiences can expect to witness breathtaking routines on the uneven bars, balance beam, vault, and floor exercise, as athletes push their limits in pursuit of excellence.
Building Champions, Shaping Lives
Founded in 2008, the PGAA STY Gymnastics Center was established with the goal of producing world-class Filipino athletes. The academy works closely with local government units through grassroots programs and scholarship initiatives, such as those under the Muntinlupa Gymnastics Club, allowing young gymnasts to train alongside PGAA’s main delegation.
“These programs are not just about creating champions,” said Ty. “They’re about transforming lives — helping young people build discipline, confidence, and pride in representing their communities and their country.”
