Pune Traffic Police Crush 130 Modified Bike Silencers with Bulldozer, Fine 300 Riders
Pune, 6th August 2026: The Pune City Traffic Police seized modified silencers from 300 motorcycles during a six-day special drive against vehicles causing excessive noise across the city, according to a press note issued by the department.
The police imposed fines totalling ₹3 lakh, of which ₹1.34 lakh has been deposited with the government. Modified silencers were removed from 130 motorcycles, while further action against the vehicles is underway. All 130 confiscated silencers were subsequently destroyed using a bulldozer at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Yerawada.
“The Pune City Traffic Police will continue to take strict action against motorists using illegal modified silencers. Citizens should comply with traffic regulations and cooperate with the authorities in making Pune free from noise pollution,” DCP (Traffic) Dr Sandeep Bhajibhakare said in the press note.
As part of the drive, Kalepadal police registered a case against 18 people for riding motorcycles fitted with modified silencers. The accused included a garage owner and individuals involved in installing the silencers.
In another operation, Chandannagar police raided a garage named The Road King following information provided by the traffic branch. Police seized seven Bullet motorcycles fitted with modified silencers and six modified silencers that had allegedly been kept for sale. A case was registered against two people, including the garage owner.
Separately, the traffic police collected ₹43.87 lakh in fines for various other traffic violations during the drive.
