Pune Colleges to Charge Fee for ‘Career Katta’ Initiative; Can Be Claimed Through Scholarships
Pune, 16th October 2025: Students at colleges affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) will now see a registration fee for the ‘Career Katta’ career guidance initiative included in their college fees. The Higher Education Department has instructed affiliated colleges to incorporate this fee under the ‘Miscellaneous Merit and Activity Fees’ category in the university fee structure.
The ‘Career Katta’ program, implemented by the Maharashtra Information Technology Support Center (MITSC) in collaboration with the Higher and Technical Education Department, provides career guidance and training to students throughout the year. The initiative, running since 2021, covers various activities aimed at helping students make informed career choices.
According to Dr. Shailendra Devlankar, Director of the Higher Education Department, “By including the fee in the university’s official fee structure, students can claim reimbursement through scholarships. This ensures that the financial burden of the Rs 365 registration fee does not fall directly on students.”
A circular issued by the Deputy Registrar of Academic Admissions at SPPU in June 2025 instructed colleges to implement the fee under the heading ‘Miscellaneous Merit and Initiative Fees’. Dr. Parag Kalkar, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of SPPU, added, “This inclusion allows students to receive reimbursement for the Career Katta registration fee, minimizing any financial strain on them.”
The move comes amid ongoing efforts to standardize the implementation of Career Katta across colleges. The initiative has been in place since 2021, and the fee inclusion ensures uniformity while supporting student access to scholarships.
Students are also reminded that the deadline to submit exam forms for classes 10th to 12th is October 20, with university examinations now scheduled to begin from October 27 after delays caused by recent floods. Flood-affected students have demanded fee waivers, adding urgency to discussions around financial support.
