Over 13,000 New Vehicles Registered in Pune on Diwali Padwa; GST Cut Drives Auto Sales Surge
Pune, 19th October 2025: The central government’s recent reduction in Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates has given a strong boost to the automobile sector this festive season. Vehicle registrations in Pune saw a 10% increase this Diwali compared to last year, reflecting renewed consumer confidence and strong festive demand.
“Compared to last year, advance bookings for new vehicles have significantly increased. Dealers have been instructed not to deliver vehicles until the registration number plates are issued,” said Swapnil Bhosale, Deputy Regional Transport Officer, Pune.
Between October 8 and October 17, a total of 13,387 new vehicles were registered, up from 12,235 registrations during the same period in 2024. The GST reduction has led to a notable drop in prices—two-wheelers are now cheaper by ₹10,000 to ₹12,000, while four-wheelers have seen price cuts ranging from ₹35,000 to ₹40,000.
On Dussehra alone, 9,531 vehicles were registered, while the number climbed to 13,387 on the auspicious occasion of Diwali Padwa.
Officials said there has been a noticeable rise in purchases of two-wheelers and commercial vehicles. Last year, 7,911 two-wheelers and 368 goods vehicles were registered. This year, the figures have surged to 8,763 and 635, respectively. Registrations of commercial cars, cabs, and taxis have more than doubled to 471 units. However, private car registrations dipped slightly from 3,112 last year to 2,786 this year.
