Pune: Two Women Died as Under-Construction Wall Collapses at Kurkumbh MIDC Factory
Daund, 20th October 2025: Tragedy struck a chemical factory under construction in Kurkumbh MIDC, Daund taluka, on Thursday afternoon when a 15-foot-high wall collapsed, killing two women and injuring another. The incident occurred around 4.30 pm.
The Daund police have identified the deceased as Mamata Devi Sudama Das (27) and Soni Devi Sarayu Kumar (28), both originally from Gaya, Bihar, and currently residing in Pandharewadi, Daund. Another worker, Sita Devi Kol from Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, sustained serious leg injuries.
Police lodged a case against the contractor and site supervisor under sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 125 (acts endangering life and personal safety) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to Police Constable Sanjay Nagare, who filed the complaint, construction of a compound wall was in progress when the accident occurred. “The wall, about 15 feet tall, had not yet set or dried. While it was still weak, the contractor began dumping soil on the other side using an earthmoving machine,” Nagare explained.
He added, “The wall could not bear the weight of the soil and collapsed. The three women working nearby were buried under the debris. Two of them were killed instantly, while the third was rescued by fellow workers and rushed to a hospital with severe injuries.”
Preliminary investigations revealed a lack of safety precautions at the site. “The contractor and supervisor did not provide adequate safety measures for the workers, which led to this unfortunate accident,” Nagare said.
The police have launched further inquiries into the incident and are examining whether negligence on part of the contractor and supervisor directly contributed to the collapse.
