Pune, 20th October 2025: While most city residents were busy celebrating Diwali, burglars targeted closed houses and shops across several areas of Pune, making away with gold ornaments and cash worth nearly ₹6 lakh. The incidents were reported from Mangwar Peth, Sinhagad Road, Wagholi, and NIBM Road.

In Mangwar Peth, unidentified thieves broke into a closed flat in the Shitole Building and stole gold jewellery and cash worth ₹2.10 lakh from a cupboard. A 53-year-old businessman has lodged a complaint at the Samarth Police Station in this regard.

On Sinhagad Road, thieves lifted the shutters of three shops—Anvaya Ladies, SNR Collection, and another establishment in Bhamini Arcade—and decamped with cash worth ₹43,000. A woman shop owner lodged a complaint at the Parvati Police Station, and a case has been registered against unknown persons.

In Wagholi, the Golcha family of Konark Exotica Society became victims of burglary while they were out of town for Diwali. Thieves allegedly opened the safety door lock using a duplicate key and stole jewellery and cash worth ₹81,000 from a bedroom cupboard. CCTV camera footage has caught glimpses of the thieves.

A similar incident occurred in Nine Hills Society on NIBM Road, where burglars took advantage of the homeowner’s absence to steal gold ornaments and cash worth ₹2.65 lakh from a cupboard. A case has been registered at the Kalepadal Police Station.

Police have appealed to citizens to take precautionary measures while going out of town during the festive season. “Residents should inform their neighbours, ensure CCTV cameras and alarm systems are functional, and avoid keeping valuable jewellery and large amounts of cash at home,” officials said.
