Shirur, 22nd October 2025: A tragic leopard attack shook the village of Jambut, claiming the life of Bhagubai Jadhav. The incident occurred at around 6 a.m., when she went to use a toilet located outside her house.

According to her son Vitthal Jadhav and relative Govid Jadhav, the attack was sudden and brutal. “She could not even make a sound. After about fifteen minutes, we noticed her shoes had fallen outside, and we immediately started searching for her,” Vitthal said. The leopard reportedly dragged Bhagubai for nearly half a kilometre before her body was discovered in a nearby sugarcane field.

The Jadhav family lives in a house surrounded by open agricultural land, which officials believe may have contributed to the tragic incident. “She had just completed her Lakshmi puja and was resting peacefully. This has left our family in immense grief,” Govid Jadhav added.

This is the second leopard attack in the area within a week, causing widespread fear among local residents just ahead of Diwali. Forest officials, including Forest Range Officer Nilkanth Gavane, have reached the site to investigate the incident and take preventive measures.

Authorities have urged villagers to remain vigilant, especially in areas near open fields and sugarcane plantations, as human-wildlife conflicts in the region continue to rise.
