Pune Traffic Police Issue Advisory Amid Rain and Heavy Post-Diwali Rush
Pune, 26th October 2025: The Pune City Traffic Branch has issued an advisory warning commuters about possible traffic congestion and slow vehicular movement across several major routes in the city on Sunday evening.
According to the advisory issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic Branch), the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Pune has issued a yellow alert for the district, forecasting rainfall in the next few hours. The traffic police have cautioned that wet and slippery roads could slow down traffic and increase the risk of accidents.
In addition, heavy vehicular movement is being witnessed across Pune as large numbers of people return to the city following the Diwali festivities. This has led to a significant rise in traffic density, particularly on key entry routes.
Slow Traffic on Major Routes
The Pune Traffic Branch stated that traffic is likely to remain slow on the following routes:
- Solapur–Pune Road
- Satara–Katraj Road
- Ahilyanagar–Pune Road
- Katraj to Vadgaon Bridge area
Commuters Advised to Plan Ahead
Motorists have been advised to check traffic updates before travelling and plan their journeys accordingly. The police have urged citizens to use public transport such as PMPML buses or the Pune Metro wherever possible and to consider alternative routes to avoid congestion.
Safety Precautions During Rain
With rain expected in the evening, the advisory also stresses road safety measures. Drivers have been urged to ensure their vehicle lights and wipers are functioning properly, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and avoid sudden braking.
“Safe travel is our priority,” the advisory said, adding that motorists should follow speed limits and exercise caution on wet roads.
