Kothrud, 29th October 2025: The Pune Police have confirmed that wanted gangster Nilesh Ghaywal, the main accused in the Kothrud shooting case, is currently in London on a visitor visa. The revelation came after an official communication from the British High Commission in response to a request by the Pune Police seeking his location and arrest.
According to police officials, Ghaywal’s visa is valid until February 2026. The Pune Police had earlier issued both Red Corner and Blue Corner Notices to trace and apprehend him. The British High Commission has now confirmed through an email that Ghaywal is residing in London and entered the United Kingdom using a visitor visa.
Ghaywal, along with his brother Sachin Ghaywal and several associates, faces multiple serious charges including murder, extortion, and organized crime. A case under the Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA) has been registered against them at the Kothrud Police Station.
Police investigations have revealed that Ghaywal allegedly obtained a passport using forged documents, registering his surname as “Gaywal,” before fleeing India. Following this discovery, Pune Police corresponded with the UK authorities to locate him and initiate extradition proceedings.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 3) Sambhaji Kadam confirmed the development, stating, “The High Commission has officially informed that Nilesh Ghaywal is in London. The process of his extradition has been accelerated, and he will be brought back to the country soon after completing the legal formalities.”
The Pune Police, with the help of central agencies, are now coordinating with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to expedite the extradition process and bring Ghaywal back to face trial.
