Why Pune Needs More CNG Stations Now: Petrol Dealers Raise Alarm
Pune, 4th November 2025: The Petrol Dealers Association, Pune, has urged the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) to take immediate action to strengthen the city’s compressed natural gas (CNG) infrastructure amid rising demand.
A delegation led by Association President Dhruv Ruparel, along with Senior Mentor and Past President Sameer Ladkat and members Keyur Shah and Bhagyendra Chudasama, met Dr. Anil Kumar Jain, Chairperson of PNGRB, to highlight the growing challenges faced by consumers and dealers due to the limited number of CNG stations in Pune.
The Association appealed to the regulatory body to expand the number of CNG outlets, ensure uniform pricing across the district, and maintain uninterrupted supply. Officials said the rapid increase in CNG-powered vehicles has put immense strain on existing infrastructure, resulting in long queues and inconvenience for motorists.
“Pune is leading India’s clean fuel revolution — but our infrastructure hasn’t kept pace with our ambition,” said Dhruv Ruparel, President of the Petrol Dealers Association, Pune. “If we truly want to breathe cleaner air and move faster toward a sustainable future, expanding the CNG network is not a choice — it’s an urgent necessity.”
The Association emphasized that a stronger CNG network would not only reduce waiting times but also help curb vehicular emissions, aligning with Pune’s vision of becoming a cleaner and greener city.
Reaffirming its commitment to collaborate with government agencies, the Association said it plans to meet Pune MP and Minister Murlidhar Mohol to further pursue the issue. If required, the matter will be escalated to the Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas to ensure a reliable and robust CNG network for Pune’s citizens.
