Pune, 4th November 2025: Vehicular movement has resumed on the Bhide Bridge, offering long-awaited relief to commuters and residents of central Pune. Pune Metro officials confirmed that the bridge, which had been shut for metro-related construction, will remain open for traffic until November 15.

The closure was necessary to facilitate the construction of a pedestrian bridge connecting the Deccan Gymkhana Metro Station to the Peth areas across the Mutha River. Once completed, the new walkway will provide a convenient link for residents of Narayan Peth, Shaniwar Peth, and Laxmi Road, along with students who frequently travel to educational institutions in the area.

Metro authorities stated that from November 16 to December 31, the bridge will be closed to vehicles only during the night — between 10 pm and 6 am — to complete the remaining construction and maintenance work. Daytime traffic will continue to be allowed during this phase to minimize inconvenience.

The prolonged closure had caused considerable hardship for regular commuters, forcing them to take longer detours and contributing to congestion in areas like Deccan, Erandwane, and Shivajinagar. The reopening is expected to significantly ease traffic flow in these localities.

Officials have requested motorists to follow diversion instructions and cooperate with traffic personnel during the restricted hours. The Pune Metro team added that all pending work on the Bhide Bridge and adjoining pedestrian structure will be completed by the end of the year, after which full access will be restored permanently.
