Pune, 10th November 2025: A new initiative, StickStart25, has been launched in Wanowarie, Pune, offering free hockey orientation sessions for girls aged 6 to 19. The programme conducted every Sunday morning from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., runs from November 1 to December 31, 2025, and aims to mark 100 years of Indian hockey while encouraging more girls to take up the sport.

Organised by brothers Prabhjyot and Navjot Sethi, founders of Mitti Mauji and Hockeystani, the initiative is supported by 5th Sense. The eight-session camp provides free access to hockey equipment, turf time, and refreshments. Each participant is given a hockey stick and ball for practice during the sessions. Girls who complete at least six sessions will receive a free hockey stick to take home, a complimentary jersey, and a participation certificate. Selected players will also get confirmed entry into local tournaments.

According to the organisers, StickStart25 is designed not only to promote physical fitness but also to revive interest in hockey among the city’s youth. “Indian hockey is all about guts, grit and glory. StickStart25 is our way of paying tribute to this spirit and passing it on to young athletes,” the founders said.

The Mitti Mauji movement began during the COVID-19 lockdown, when the Sethi brothers, both advertising professionals and writers, rediscovered their love for hockey. What started as a casual street activity soon attracted neighbours and enthusiasts who shared their passion for the sport. This led to the creation of two community hockey groups, Hockeystani and Mitti Mauji, which now bring together players of all ages from across South Pune.

“Mitti Mauji is more than just a sports group; it’s a way of life that helps people reconnect with their roots,” said the organisers. They credit Dr. Bharath from 5th Sense for his continued support, providing equipment, sponsoring jerseys, and funding local tournaments.

The brothers believe inclusivity is key to hockey’s revival. “Our mission is to break down the barriers that have kept hockey out of reach for many and make it accessible to every child,” they said.

Registrations for StickStart25 are free and open to the first 21 participants. No forms are required. Interested candidates can confirm their entry by calling 7798626508.

The sessions will be conducted at Kakade Maidan, near Samvidhan Chowk, Wanowarie, Pune. Participants are required to wear sports attire and carry their own water bottles. Parents or guardians are responsible for drop-off and pick-up.
