Pune’s Population Boom: 2 Crore by 2050, Ajit Pawar Urges Planned Development
Pune, 13th November 2025: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Wednesday said that some tough decisions will have to be taken to ensure the planned development of Pune and its surrounding regions, as the population of the Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and PMRDA areas is expected to reach two crore by 2050.
Pawar was speaking after inaugurating the beautified stretch developed under the ‘Adopted Road Scheme’ between Chintamani Chowk and Nilgiri Chowk in Ambegaon Budruk. The project includes road cleaning, beautification, improved lighting, and installation of CCTV cameras.
“Pune is expanding rapidly. Therefore, a long-term development plan with a clear vision is necessary. We must plan with the next 50 years in mind,” Pawar said. “Like Mumbai, property prices in Pune have surged. Efforts are underway to make the city slum-free through RERA and SRA projects. We are also working to ensure that the Pune Municipal Corporation receives adequate funds from the state government.”
The Deputy Chief Minister also urged citizens to maintain cleanliness and civic discipline. “The road from Chintamani Chowk to Nilgiri Chowk has been made very attractive under this scheme. If citizens give equal priority to cleanliness, Pune will become more beautiful and livable,” he added.

P., Omprakash Divate, Road Department Head Aniruddha Pawaskar, Deputy Commissioner Madhav Katkar, Madhav Jagtap, Assistant Commissioner Surekha Bhanage, NCP City President Subhash Jagtap, Former Mayor Datta Dhankawade, and Chintamani Forum President Appa Renuse.
