Pune, 20th November 2025: BJP city general secretary and former corporator Pushkar Tuljapurkar has alleged that his 75-year-old father-in-law, Prakash Purohit, has gone missing from Sassoon General Hospital for the past two months.

According to Tuljapurkar, Purohit was admitted to the hospital on 23 September 2024 for a serious respiratory illness. He said the hospital administration has since failed to provide any information regarding Purohit’s condition or whereabouts. “Is he alive or dead? Since the day we admitted him, the hospital has not given us a single update,” Tuljapurkar said, expressing frustration.

Tuljapurkar added that he has been repeatedly sent between various departments of Sassoon Hospital over the past two months but has received no clarity. “If a public representative like me is being treated this way, what must be the condition of the common man?” he asked.

The BJP leader also claimed that Purohit had been admitted to the ICU, but family members were denied access and refused both verbal and written updates on his health. In an effort to seek accountability, Tuljapurkar has submitted a written complaint to the hospital directors and plans to escalate the matter to Maharashtra’s Medical Education Minister Hasan Mushrif and Minister of State Madhuri Misal.

“I have requested the hospital directors to inform us if the patient is still admitted and about any developments in his condition, but the administration is unwilling to provide even such basic information,” Tuljapurkar said.

Sassoon Hospital, Pune’s largest government medical facility, treats thousands of patients daily. However, complaints about administrative lapses, lack of communication, and negligence have been increasing. Following Tuljapurkar’s allegations, an inquiry by the Medical Education Department may be initiated.

Meanwhile, Purohit’s family remains in a state of anxiety. “We only want to know where he is and what his condition is,” Tuljapurkar said, highlighting the distress caused by the lack of information.
