Viman Nagar, 25th November 2025: Hours before sunrise on Tuesday, airport staff once again reported the presence of a leopard near Pune Airport, prompting an immediate response from forest officials and allied teams. The fresh sighting has renewed concerns about wildlife movement in the high-security zone and triggered intensified monitoring efforts.

According to the Pune Forest Division, three camera traps had been installed earlier after the leopard was last seen on the morning of 19th November but none captured any visual evidence of the animal. In response, officials deployed five additional camera traps on Tuesday at locations identified as likely movement paths, taking the total number of active camera traps to eight.

To further strengthen the response, three trap cages have also been placed at strategic points. These are aimed at ensuring close surveillance and facilitating safe capture if required, officials said.

The operation was conducted jointly by field staff of the Pune Forest Range, members of RESQ, and Indian Air Force personnel stationed at the airport premises. All teams remained on alert through the day as monitoring was scaled up.

A senior official from the Pune Forest Division said the department is treating the sighting with utmost seriousness and will continue tracking movement patterns to ensure public safety as well as the animal’s wellbeing.
