Pune, 1st December 2025: In a focused drive to curb drunk driving and enhance road safety, Pune City Traffic Police conducted a special enforcement campaign across the city for three days from November 28 to November 30. During the operation, checkpoints were set up at 30 strategic locations, resulting in action against 172 motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol.

Traffic police teams carried out intensive checks during late evening and night hours at key junctions and high-risk zones across Pune. Offenders were booked under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act and penalised as per the prescribed legal provisions. Officials said further action, including court proceedings, will also follow in applicable cases.

Speaking about the campaign, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Himmat Jadhav urged citizens to act responsibly. “Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence that endangers lives. We appeal to all motorists to follow traffic rules and prioritise safety. Responsible driving can prevent accidents and protect both drivers and pedestrians,” he said.

The traffic department reiterated that strict action will continue against those violating safety norms, especially with increased festive and year-end travel. Authorities have also called on the public to cooperate with enforcement efforts and avoid situations that put themselves and others at risk.
