Pune: Two Schoolchildren Killed After Bus Loses Control in Hinjawadi IT Park; Driver Drunk, say Police
Hinjawadi, 1st December 2025: A horrifying accident in the Hinjawadi IT Park on Monday evening left two schoolchildren dead and several others injured after a company bus allegedly driven under the influence of alcohol jumped onto a footpath near Pancharatna Chowk.
According to police, the bus carrying IT employees suddenly went out of control around 5.45 pm. It first hit a motorcycle (MH 10 CE 0481), seriously injuring the rider, before running over three siblings who were walking alongside the road. Two of them died on the spot. The employees also fled from the spot after the accident.
Senior Police Inspector Balaji Pandhare from Hinjawadi Police Station (Pimpri Chinchwad police) confirmed that the children belonged to the same family. The deceased have been identified as Suraj Devendra Prasad, aged 6, and his sister Archana, aged 9. Their 16-year-old sister, Priya, is undergoing treatment and remains in a critical condition.
Two others — 26-year-old Avinash Haridas Chavan and 40-year-old Vimal Raju Ozarkar — also suffered injuries. Chavan’s condition is reported to be serious, while Ozarkar is stable.
The accused driver has been identified as 36-year-old Nagnath Rajabhau Gujar from Bhosari. Police said he was speeding and drunk at the time of the incident. All victims were rushed to Pune District Hospital in Aundh for immediate medical care.
“He was intoxicated and drove recklessly, which directly caused this tragedy,” a police officer said.
A case is being registered under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Further investigation is underway, including the collection of CCTV footage and medical reports to support the case.
