Kalyani Nagar, 1st December 2025: A 30-year-old valet parking attendant was killed in a tragic incident at Toit Pune in Kalyani Nagar yesterday afternoon after being crushed by a speeding car driven by an intoxicated IT professional.

The Yerwada Police have arrested the accused, identified as Pratap Pratapsingh Bhartarao Daingade (49), a resident of Nerul, Navi Mumbai, with a temporary residence in Dhanori, Pune.

According to the FIR (No. 0815/2025) lodged by the hotel manager, Prakash Menezes, the incident occurred around 2:45 PM on Sunday, 30th November.

The accused, Daingade, had arrived at the hotel earlier that afternoon. Around 2:00 PM, observing that the patron was heavily intoxicated and creating a disturbance, the hotel staff refused further service and asked him to leave. The manager reportedly offered to arrange a driver for Daingade, noticing his unsteady state. However, the accused allegedly refused assistance, stating, “I don’t need anyone,” and insisted on driving his Volkswagen Jetta himself.

While attempting to manoeuvre the vehicle in the parking area, Daingade allegedly accelerated violently, crushing the valet, Satendra Moti Mandal (30), against the hotel’s compound wall.

Mandal, a resident of Vadgaon Sheri, suffered critical head and leg injuries. He was rushed to Sahyadri Hospital on Nagar Road by his colleagues but was declared dead upon arrival.

The Yerwada Police have booked Daingade under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, invoking Section 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), Section 281 (rash driving), and Section 125(b) (act endangering life). He has also been charged under Sections 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act for driving under the influence.

In a significant development today, the accused was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC). The prosecution argued that the accused knowingly drove while intoxicated, resulting in the loss of life, and requested five days of police custody to investigate further and retrieve technical data from the vehicle.
