Pune Municipal Commissioner Flags Alarming Riverbed Debris Dumping, Orders Probe
Pune, 9th December 2025: Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has taken serious note of the continued dumping of construction debris in the riverbed, despite the civic body spending crores on river cleaning and beautification. Terming the situation “highly alarming,” he announced that a dedicated committee will be formed to thoroughly review the matter and fix responsibility.
Ram inspected civic issues in Ward No. 2 (Phulenagar–Nagpur Chawl) in Yerawada, where he observed large piles of debris dumped on both sides of the river near Shantinagar. The ongoing dumping, he said, has obstructed the river’s natural flow and created environmental hazards. Officials have been instructed to take immediate action to clear the site and prevent further dumping.
He also interacted with local residents and assured them that strict measures will be implemented to hold contractors and individuals accountable for illegal disposal of debris.
