Pune: Residents Perform “Aarti” of Accident-Prone Divider to Protest Incomplete BRTS Work on Vishrantwadi–Alandi Road
Pune, 10th December 2025: In a unique and pointed demonstration, residents of Wagholi, along with Congress workers, staged a symbolic “aarti” of the accident-prone divider on the Vishrantwadi–Alandi Road, criticising the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and PMPML for leaving the BRTS corridor incomplete and hazardous. The protest was organised under the leadership of Sachin Bhosale, Vice President of the Congress Party’s Vadgaonsheri Block.
The agitation follows a series of serious accidents attributed to the partially constructed BRTS divider, which commuters say becomes nearly invisible after dark. Residents claim that 20–25 major accidents have occurred in recent months, many involving four-wheelers crashing directly into the divider due to inadequate lighting and lack of reflective markings.
With construction of the Vishrantwadi flyover already causing daily traffic bottlenecks, locals allege that the incomplete BRTS lane has turned the stretch into a high-risk zone.
Protesters highlighted that despite multiple written complaints submitted over the last two years by citizens and Congress representatives, PMC and PMPML have failed to take corrective measures. They described the condition of the road as a direct outcome of “negligence and planning failure.”
Calling for urgent intervention, Bhosale said the authorities must dismantle the unfinished BRTS lane and ensure adequate illumination and reflectors on the divider.
“If the administration does not act immediately, we will intensify our agitation with a large-scale rasta roko in the coming days,” he stated.
Several social workers and local activists participated in the demonstration, including Aniket Gangawane, Khandu Landge, Nandu Rakshe, Anand Kamble, Sunny Rao, Hitesh Patole, Bharat Devkule, among others.
