DG NCC Reviews Expansion, Training Modernisation During Two-Day Maharashtra Visit
Mumbai, 11th December 2025: The National Cadet Corps is set for a sharper technology-driven future, as Director General NCC Lt Gen Virendra Vats, YSM, VSM, SM, concluded a two-day visit to the NCC Directorate Maharashtra with a strong push for infrastructure upgrades, wider youth inclusion, and enhanced training standards.
The DG was welcomed with an impressive Tri-Services Guard of Honour by cadets representing the Army, Navy, and Air Force wings. Praising their discipline and drill precision, Lt Gen Vats described the display as a reflection of the NCC’s high training standards and the cadets’ commitment to national service. He encouraged them to continue pursuing excellence and to uphold the organisation’s legacy of shaping future leaders.
During the formal briefing, Maj Gen Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General, Maharashtra NCC Directorate, presented an overview of key achievements and initiatives. The discussion underscored the state’s ongoing expansion of NCC units to create more opportunities for young volunteers.
The DG commended the Directorate’s efforts to boost participation across Maharashtra, including significantly increasing the intake of girl cadets up to 40%, a move aligned with the national vision of Viksit Bharat @2047.
A major focus of the visit was strengthening the technological and infrastructural backbone of NCC training in Maharashtra.
The DG reviewed plans for:
-Upgrading and constructing dedicated academies, similar to the Chhava NCC Training Academy in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
-Introducing drone training as part of the regular curriculum.
-Establishing a Remote Pilot Training Organisation (RPTO) in Nagpur to build unmanned aerial systems competencies.
-Enhancing manpower and equipment support to match the pace of NCC expansion.
-Discussions highlighted the need to prepare cadets for emerging domains while ensuring the Directorate is well-equipped for future requirements.
Lt Gen Vats later attended a vibrant cultural event at Cariappa Auditorium, Colaba, where cadets presented performances celebrating Maharashtra’s heritage and patriotic ethos. He also awarded medallions to distinguished cadets and staff.
During an interactive session, the DG addressed queries from cadets on training, adventure sports, social service, and career preparedness. He advised them to balance academics with NCC responsibilities, emphasising discipline, leadership, and selfless service as essential qualities for excelling in competitive examinations and professional life.
Underscoring the importance of inter-agency cooperation, the DG met Lt Gen DS Kushwah, AVSM, SM, GOC HQ MG & G Area, to discuss matters related to NCC expansion, operational participation—including during Op Sindoor—and ongoing community development initiatives.
He appreciated the long-standing synergy between the NCC Directorate, Army units, and state government bodies, noting that HQ DG NCC will continue to support and empower the Directorate as it nurtures motivated, socially responsible youth.
