IIM Mumbai Introduces Four-Year Undergraduate Programme in Digital Science; Pune Campus Expansion on the Anvil
Mumbai/Pune, 13th December 2025: In a major step towards aligning management education with emerging technologies, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai has rolled out a four-year undergraduate degree in Digital Science and Business Management, signalling a strategic shift towards future-oriented academic offerings.
The programme has been designed to prepare students for leadership roles in a technology-driven economy by combining core management principles with advanced digital tools. Alongside subjects such as finance, marketing, operations and production management, students will receive training in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data analytics, Internet of Things (IoT) and robotics.
Strong Emphasis on Practical and Industry-Based Learning
A key feature of the programme is its focus on experiential learning, with structured internships and live industry projects forming an integral part of the curriculum. IIM Mumbai has partnered with professional bodies, including C4i4, to ensure students gain exposure to real-world business and technological challenges.
The institute is also exploring international academic collaborations, with discussions underway with IMT France to facilitate global learning opportunities. Officials said the programme has been structured in line with the National Education Policy (NEP), encouraging interdisciplinary learning, flexibility and skill-based education.
Undergraduate Education a Strategic Priority
IIM Mumbai Director Prof. Manoj Tiwari said the introduction of the undergraduate programme reflects the institute’s broader vision to expand its academic footprint beyond postgraduate management education.
“This initiative aims to develop digitally competent graduates with a strong managerial foundation and global outlook,” he said, adding that the programme will strengthen IIM Mumbai’s position as a pioneer in undergraduate management education.
Pune Campus to Anchor Programme Expansion
In a related development, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation Murlidhar Mohol has granted approval for setting up an academic campus in Pune to support the undergraduate programme. The Pune Municipal Corporation has agreed to allot a building, enabling IIM Mumbai to extend its academic activities beyond its main campus.
Officials noted that the proposed Pune campus would help scale undergraduate education, foster industry-academia collaboration, and create a robust learning ecosystem for students pursuing digital and management studies.
