Onion, Tomato, Garlic Turn Costlier; Vegetable Prices Firm in Pune
Market Yard, 15th December 2025: Prices of onion, tomato and garlic rose in Pune’s wholesale vegetable market due to increased demand, traders said on Sunday. Rates of most other vegetables remained steady, while drumstick (shevga), which had witnessed a sharp rise last week, recorded a marginal decline.
Around 100 trucks of vegetables arrived at the Gultekdi wholesale market from various parts of Maharashtra and other states. Supplies were received from Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Major arrivals included green chilli, carrot, cabbage, drumstick, beans, peas and garlic. Onion arrivals remained high at around 100 trucks.
From the Pune region, arrivals included tomato, ladyfinger, cluster beans, cucumber, cauliflower, capsicum, pumpkin and other vegetables. Potato arrivals from Indore, Agra and local areas were estimated at around 60 tempos.
Demand for leafy vegetables continued to remain strong. On Sunday, nearly 1.9 lakh bunches of coriander and about 1 lakh bunches of fenugreek arrived at the market yard. Prices of leafy vegetables ranged between ₹500 and ₹2,000 per 100 bunches, depending on the variety.
In the fruit market, prices of lemon, sweet lime (mosambi), muskmelon, papaya and guava increased, while rates of other fruits remained stable. Arrivals included mosambi, oranges, pomegranate, papaya, lemon, watermelon, muskmelon, chikoo, pineapple, ber, custard apple and guava, traders added.
