Fursungi, 17th December 2025: With strict enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct ahead of the Uruli Devachi–Fursungi Nagar Parishad elections, authorities have intensified surveillance in the region, leading to the detention of two individuals for allegedly transporting liquor illegally. Among those booked is the 19-year-old son of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, police said on Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the Fursungi area of Hadapsar, where members of the Election Commission’s monitoring squad were conducting routine inspections as part of measures to prevent election-related violations. The civic polls are scheduled to take place on December 20.

According to police officials, the enforcement team intercepted a car approaching from the Pune–Solapur Highway during a late-night check-post operation. Upon inspection, officials discovered liquor bottles inside the vehicle. The occupants were unable to produce valid documents or offer a lawful explanation for possessing and transporting the alcohol during the election period.

The matter was immediately reported to the Fursungi Police Station, following which police personnel arrived at the location and took custody of the vehicle and the seized liquor. The car, valued at approximately Rs 7 lakh, along with the alcohol, has been confiscated.

A complaint in the case was lodged by Suhas Gavali (36), a member of the Election Commission’s surveillance team deployed to monitor compliance with election expenditure norms and the Model Code of Conduct.

Confirming the development, Senior Police Inspector Amol More said that a case has been registered against both accused under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act, and further investigation is in progress.
