Pune, 18th December 2025: A serious sanitation issue has surfaced near the newly constructed Raheja Sterling building in Pune’s NIBM area, where untreated sewage water is allegedly overflowing onto a public road and flowing into a nearby stream, triggering concerns over public health and environmental safety.

Social activist Jaymala Dhankikar said that an English-medium school is located along the roadside in front of the Raheja Sterling premises. A drainage chamber situated outside the school reportedly carries wastewater from surrounding societies and buildings.

According to Dhankikar, the chamber overflows every morning and evening, causing sewage to spill onto the road and eventually drain into a nearby nullah. She also claimed that sewage water accumulates along the boundary wall of the Raheja Sterling building before entering the stream. Videos and photographs related to the incident have been submitted as evidence.

A similar problem has been reported at the rear side of the building, where sewage water allegedly flows down from an upper cement road into another drainage chamber. Wastewater from nearby residential complexes is said to pass through this line and ultimately reach the same nullah.

Dhankikar further pointed out that a temporary labour toilet has been set up along the side of the Raheja Sterling building. While waste from this facility is reportedly collected daily using a suction vehicle, she alleged that untreated sewage from the drainage system continues to flow openly into the stream, worsening the sanitation situation.

Local residents have raised alarm that the continuous discharge of sewage onto public roads poses serious health risks, particularly to schoolchildren, pedestrians, and daily commuters. They have demanded immediate intervention by the Pune Municipal Corporation to inspect the drainage network, stop any illegal sewage discharge, and ensure proper sanitation in the area.

Civic authorities are yet to issue an official response. However, residents and activists have urged swift action to prevent the issue from escalating into a major public health hazard.
