Pune Metro Travel: Only Sealed Non-Vegetarian Food Allowed, MahaMetro Issues Guidelines
Pune, 20th December 2025: Important guidelines have been reiterated for Pune Metro commuters regarding food items on board. Passengers are allowed to carry only sealed non-vegetarian food items during their metro journey. Raw meat, unpackaged non-vegetarian food, and dried fish are strictly prohibited, whether carried openly or in bags.
Cooked vegetarian or non-vegetarian food can be transported in containers or packages; however, consuming any food inside the metro is not permitted. These rules have been in effect since the launch of the metro, but conflicts often arise at security checks due to a lack of awareness among passengers.
In light of this, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (MahaMetro) has re-issued the list of prohibited items to ensure smoother travel. According to MahaMetro Public Relations Officer Chandrashekhar Tambwekar, “Since the metro is fully air-conditioned, the smell of spoiled or cooked food can spread throughout the train, causing discomfort to other passengers.”
Commuters are advised to follow these guidelines to avoid inconvenience during travel and ensure a comfortable environment for all passengers.
