Nana Peth, 23rd December 2025: The Samarth Police on Monday arrested Bandu Andekar, a known gang leader, in connection with an alleged ₹5.40 crore extortion case linked to the illegal occupation of a plot in Nana Peth. A special court has remanded him to police custody till December 26.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by a businessman from Bhavani Peth, who alleged that Andekar forcibly took possession of the land, constructed an illegal structure on it, and earned rental income by placing tenants there since 2017.

Police said Andekar, also known as Suryakant Ranoji Andekar (70), a resident of Nana Peth, along with Manesh alias Manoj Chandrakant Wardekar (56) of Guruwar Peth, has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for extortion and encroachment, in addition to provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

According to the complaint, when the landowner sought possession of the plot for redevelopment, Andekar allegedly demanded either two shops or ₹1.5 crore, along with ₹30 lakh purportedly for municipal work. He also allegedly threatened the complainant with dire consequences if the demands were not met.

Andekar is currently lodged in Dhule jail in judicial custody in a separate murder case involving his grandson, Ayush Komkar. The Samarth Police took him into custody through a production warrant and produced him before the special court on Monday.

Seeking police custody, Special Public Prosecutor Anil Kumbhar told the court that the investigation needs to trace the use of the extorted ₹5.40 crore, identify other possible beneficiaries, and determine whether the accused had used intimidation to extort money from others. Advocate Mithun Chavan represented the accused during the hearing.
