Pune, 23rd December 2025: A couple has been booked by the Ambegaon Police for allegedly cheating a businessman of ₹1.24 crore by taking laptops on rent on the pretext of leasing them to a private company and failing to return them.

The accused have been identified as Dnyaneshwar Shivaji Patekar and Nutan Dnyaneshwar Patekar. According to the police complaint, the businessman came in contact with the couple in September last year. They claimed that a private company required laptops on a rental basis and assured him a monthly rent ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000 per laptop.

Believing their claims, the businessman provided 534 laptops on rent. However, over the past year, the accused allegedly neither paid the agreed rent nor returned the laptops despite repeated demands.

After realising that he had been cheated, the businessman approached the police. A case has been registered at Ambegaon Police Station, and Police Sub-Inspector Waghmare is investigating the matter.
