Pune: PMC Restores Over 92,000 Voters to Original Wards After Electoral Roll Discrepancies
Pune, 26th December 2025: Following large-scale discrepancies in the draft electoral roll for the upcoming municipal elections, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has reinstated the names of more than 92,000 voters to their original wards after accepting a majority of the objections raised.
According to officials, the civic administration accepted 47,063 objections out of nearly 65,000 received against the draft voters’ list, resulting in corrections to ward allocations for 92,466 voters. The supplementary voters’ list reflecting these changes has been approved by Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram.
The PMC had published the draft electoral roll on November 20. Soon after, numerous complaints surfaced alleging that voters’ names had been incorrectly shifted from one ward to another, creating confusion and raising concerns of “voter shifting.” Initially, the civic body maintained that changes could be made only if individual voters submitted objections, citing Election Commission rules.
However, as similar complaints emerged across the state, the Election Commission took suo motu cognisance of the issue and issued directives empowering municipal commissioners to act on general complaints and make necessary corrections to ensure voters were listed in their rightful wards.
Following these instructions, the PMC conducted a detailed review of all objections. Of the 65,000 complaints examined, 43,000 were addressed suo motu by the administration, while 22,000 were formally submitted by citizens. Ultimately, 47,063 objections were accepted and 18,000 were rejected.
As a result, the names of approximately 92,466 voters that had been erroneously shifted to other wards have now been reinstated in their original wards through the supplementary electoral roll.
Officials said the corrective exercise is expected to enhance clarity and transparency in the electoral process ahead of the civic polls.
