Pune, 26th December 2025: The Pune civic administration has suspended an assistant engineer from the Public Works Department after she failed to report for assigned election duties during preparations for the upcoming municipal corporation elections, officials said on Thursday.

The suspended officer, Asmita Gadivadar, was deputed for election-related work at the Kondhwa–Yewalewadi ward office. However, she remained absent from her designated post, prompting authorities to initiate immediate disciplinary action. Officials emphasized that election-related responsibilities are treated as mandatory public service, and negligence in such matters is considered a serious violation.

Acting on the lapse, the concerned Election Returning Officer ordered her suspension with immediate effect and directed that her salary be withheld during the suspension period. The move has underscored the administration’s zero-tolerance stance toward dereliction of duty in the election process.

Civic authorities have warned that similar strict action will be taken against any other officials or employees who fail to perform election-related duties. The administration reiterated that maintaining discipline among election staff is essential to ensure a smooth, transparent, and fair electoral process.
